INDICATIONS

WAPDOX® is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to doxycycline.

It is recommended for the treatment of:

  • Tick-borne diseases

  • Ehrlichiosis

  • Anaplasmosis

  • Lyme disease

  • Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

  • Respiratory tract infections

  • Kennel Cough (Bordetella bronchiseptica)

  • Mycoplasma infections

  • Chlamydial infections

  • Urinary tract infections

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Periodontal disease

Treatment should be based on bacterial culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing whenever possible.


SPECTRUM OF ACTIVITY

Active against susceptible strains of:

  • Ehrlichia canis

  • Anaplasma platys

  • Borrelia burgdorferi

  • Mycoplasma spp.

  • Chlamydia felis

  • Bordetella bronchiseptica

  • Staphylococcus spp.

  • Streptococcus spp.

  • Pasteurella multocida

  • Escherichia coli

  • Leptospira spp.


PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic with bacteriostatic activity.

It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit.

It possesses excellent tissue penetration and intracellular distribution, making it particularly effective against intracellular pathogens such as Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, Chlamydia, and Mycoplasma.


DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Administer orally.

Recommended dose:

Dogs and Cats:

10 mg/kg body weight once daily

or

5 mg/kg body weight twice daily

Treatment duration:

  • Most bacterial infections: 7–14 days

  • Ehrlichiosis: 28 days

  • Lyme disease: 28–30 days

  • Chlamydial infections: 21–28 days

Always complete the prescribed course of treatment.


CONTRAINDICATIONS

Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.

Do not administer to animals with severe hepatic impairment unless directed by a veterinarian.


SPECIAL WARNINGS

Treatment should be based on bacterial culture and susceptibility testing whenever possible.

Responsible antimicrobial use should be observed to reduce the development of antimicrobial resistance.

Administer with food or water to reduce gastrointestinal irritation.

Ensure adequate water intake after administration.


ADVERSE REACTIONS

Occasionally:

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Reduced appetite

  • Esophageal irritation (particularly in cats)

  • Hypersensitivity reactions (rare)

If serious adverse reactions occur, discontinue treatment and consult a veterinarian.


USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

Use only according to the benefit-risk assessment by the attending veterinarian.


DRUG INTERACTIONS

Avoid concurrent administration with:

  • Calcium supplements

  • Iron supplements

  • Magnesium-containing products

  • Aluminum-containing antacids

  • Dairy products at dosing time

These may reduce doxycycline absorption.


OVERDOSE

Overdosage may result in gastrointestinal disturbances, anorexia, and liver dysfunction.

Symptomatic treatment is recommended.

Store below 25°C.

Keep in the original package.
