PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic with primarily bacteriostatic activity.
It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. Clindamycin achieves high concentrations in skin, bone, oral tissues, and abscesses, making it particularly useful for dermatological, dental, and musculoskeletal infections.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Administer orally.
Dogs
5.5–11 mg/kg body weight every 12 hours
or
11 mg/kg once daily
Treatment duration:
Skin infections: 7–14 days
Dental infections: 7–10 days
Osteomyelitis: 21–28 days
Cats
11–12 mg/kg once daily
For toxoplasmosis:
10–12 mg/kg twice daily for 14–28 days, according to veterinary judgment.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin.
SPECIAL WARNINGS
Antimicrobial therapy should be guided by bacterial culture and susceptibility testing whenever possible.
Responsible antimicrobial use is recommended to minimize antimicrobial resistance.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Occasionally:
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Soft stools
Reduced appetite
Rarely:
Hypersensitivity reactions
USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Use only according to the benefit-risk assessment of the attending veterinarian.
