INDICATIONS

CARDOVIA® is indicated for the treatment of canine congestive heart failure caused by:

• Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease (MMVD)

• Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM)

It is also indicated for delaying the onset of clinical signs of congestive heart failure in dogs with asymptomatic MMVD associated with cardiomegaly, as determined by appropriate veterinary examination.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Pimobendan is an inodilator possessing both positive inotropic and balanced vasodilatory properties.

It increases myocardial contractility by sensitizing cardiac troponin C to calcium without increasing myocardial oxygen consumption.

Additionally, Pimobendan inhibits phosphodiesterase III (PDE III), resulting in arterial and venous vasodilation, thereby reducing cardiac preload and afterload while improving cardiac output.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

For oral administration only.

Recommended daily dose:

0.5 mg Pimobendan/kg body weight/day

The daily dose should be divided into two equal administrations approximately 12 hours apart.

Administer approximately 1 hour before feeding.

DOSING GUIDE

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Do not use in dogs with:

• Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

• Aortic stenosis

• Pulmonary stenosis

• Conditions where increased cardiac output is inappropriate

• Known hypersensitivity to Pimobendan

SPECIAL WARNINGS

Diagnosis should be confirmed by appropriate cardiovascular examination including auscultation and echocardiography whenever possible.

Periodic monitoring of:

• Heart function

• Renal parameters

• Electrolytes

• Blood pressure

is recommended during long-term treatment.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

Occasionally:

• Mild vomiting

• Diarrhea

• Reduced appetite

• Mild lethargy

Rarely:

• Tachycardia

• Cardiac arrhythmias

• Increased mitral regurgitation

• Syncope

If adverse reactions occur, consult the attending veterinarian.

USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

The safety of Pimobendan has not been fully established during pregnancy and lactation.

Use only according to the benefit-risk assessment of the attending veterinarian.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

CARDOVIA® may be safely administered together with:

• Furosemide

• Spironolactone

• Benazepril

• Enalapril

• Ramipril

• Digoxin (under monitoring)

Use cautiously with beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers.

OVERDOSE

Signs may include:

• Hypotension

• Tachycardia

• Vomiting

• Weakness

• Cardiac arrhythmias

Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.

STORAGE

Store below 25°C.

Protect from moisture and direct sunlight.

Keep tablets in the original blister until use.

SHELF LIFE

36 months.

Use divided tablets within 3 days after opening the blister.
